Whether AKC, CKC, or Designer Breeds….we LOVE them all!
We have many requests for designer breeds as well as AKC registered puppies. Not wanting to get involved in the “Great Debate” of designer breed or mutt, we opt to believe that puppies bred specifically for people that want that specific breed should be able to get them. Besides…they’re so darned cute and when blended carefully it combines the best of both worlds when it comes to health benefits. It’s a great way to dilute certain genetic traits that you don’t necessarily desire.
What is a “Designer Breed”
The term “designer” breed was adopted when celebrities and wealthy people began to adopt, shop and purchase dogs that were a “mixed breed”. Normally, these puppies were shyed away from and labeled mutts. But as they made their way to fame, they began to be desired more and more.
Advantages of a Designer Breed
There’s some definite advantages of owning a designer breed dog. Pure bred or pure blooded dogs have specific health issues that seem to get worse as the years go on. One way to dilute these bad genetic hiccups is to breed the dog with a dog that doesn’t have those genes. For example, if a Golden Retriever dog is prone to bad hips, it’s plausable that we’d breed the Golden Retriever to a Poodle that has excellent hips to dilute this bad gene.
