Clever, silly, gentle, and loyal. Bernedoodle lovers boast that this mixed breed has the best of both worlds.  After all, it’s produced from the intelligent Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle parents.

The Bernedoodle is a companion dog, through and through. The breed inherits the intelligence of its Poodle parents and the charming, goofy temperament of the Bernese Mountain Dog.  Bernedoodles are happiest when they’re with their families, children included.   In addition, they’re willing participants in playtime and cuddle fests alike.

Hypoallergenic Blessing

The breed hasn’t been around for long, so it may be difficult to accurately make predictions about individual dogs. Sometimes they get more Poodle traits, and other times they closely resemble the Bernese. That said, fans of Bernedoodles love their warmth, playfulness, understanding, and affection. They also tend to be more hypoallergenic, which is a must for allergy sufferers.  Due to it’s Poodle parent, the Berenedoodle boasts a hypoallergenic blessing for those who desire less dander and shedding.

Bernedoodle for Sale in Missouri Coats

In addition to their temperament, Bernedoodles can differ in appearance. Their coats can be wavy, curly or straight and come in a variety of colors.

Bernedoodle coats can range more Poodle-like or more closely resemble the Bernese Mountain Dog. Usually they have curly, wavy coats that don’t shed much.   This can help make them more suitable for people with allergies to dander. Sometimes Bernedoodles can have straighter coats, which comes more from their Bernese Mountain Dog parent. The thickness of their coat helps this breed thrive in cool temperatures.   It gives them a fair amount of protection from the heat of summer months, as well.

Coat Colors

The color of Bernedoodle coats have quite a range. Some are pure black, others are black and white, and others are black and brown. Sometimes Bernedoodles are tri-colored with patches of black, white, and brown. The most popular coat colors and markings for people seeking a Bernedoodle tend to resemble the tri-colored Bernese Mountain Dog.

Sizes of Bernedoodles

There are three sizes of Bernedoodle for sale in Missouri: toy, miniature, and standard.  The Toy Bernedoodle stands at 12 to 17 inches tall at the shoulder, and weighs about 10 to 24 pounds. The Miniature Bernedoodle stands at 18 to 22 inches tall and weighs 25 to 49 pounds. The Standard Bernedoodle stands at 23 to 29 inches and weigh 70 to 90 pounds. Males are generally larger than females.

Personalities of the Bernedoodle

Bernedoodles seem to get the best personality traits from the Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle parents. Exactly which traits they receive from their parents may differ a bit.  Individual temperaments of dogs within the breed vary. Bernedoodles tend to be very smart, hardworking when necessary, loyal, and just a bit silly. They are good with children and other dogs, provided they have been well socialized.  The traits from the Poodle parent is supreme intelligence, agility and quick to learn.

Some Bernedoodles inherit the Bernese Mountain Dog’s stubbornness, which may make them difficult to train.  However, it tends to fade away as puppies grow up. Once training begins, their intelligence helps them pick up commands more easily than other dogs. Bernedoodles may also inherit the Bernese’s fear of strangers, so socialization is important, especially at a young age.

Grooming

The curlier the Bernedoodle’s coat is, the harder it is to groom. Because they shed less, they need to be brushed or groomed more often to keep their coat from getting matted. Some Bernedoodle owners brush their dog’s coat daily and treat it as a bonding experience.    This breed tends to love the affection the owner shows while brushing and will nudge you for more. Their coat must also be trimmed every few months, depending on how quickly it grows.

Bernedoodles and the Family

Bernedoodles love both worlds of a dogs life.  They love to be outdoors running, swimming and playing but they also crave being your snuggle buddy. Personal space isn’t in their vocabulary, and they shouldn’t be left alone much. Being alone causes depression and can result in separation anxiety.   This can cause nervous habits like whining, chewing or barking.

Standard Bernedoodles thrive with a fenced in yard to run and play in. They need daily walks to burn off energy .  As long as their physical needs are met, they most likely won’t turn to undesirable behaviors to keep entertained. They also need social stimulation to reinforce positive behaviors.  Exposing them to new people and animals is very important.   Thus, the more likely they’ll be well behaved when introduced to a new person or situation.

The Bernedoodle is a perfect addition to any family due to the fact they’re flexible, affectionate and emotional.  Goofy and cunning, early and consistent training and socialization are necessary.

Be prepared for a headstrong puppy and devoted dog.  Once you’re through this challenging stage, you’ll have a loving and loyal companion.
